Saudi Arabia’s stunning 2-1 victory over Argentina stole the headlines during the third day of the 2022 World Cup and the internet matched the Saudi players by rising to the occasion superbly.
All the pre-match talk was dominated by the prospect of Lionel Messi winning the tournament and guaranteeing his GOAT status but, after trailing at halftime, Saudi Arabia scored twice to complete arguably the biggest World Cup upset of the 21st century.
Elsewhere, defending champions France strolled to an opening win over Australia while the matches between Denmark and Tunisia & Mexico and Poland ended goalless – but neither were without incident.
We’ve scoured the internet to create a collection of the best social media moments of the first four-match day of Qatar 2022.

All of this. Every word.
“The World Cup shouldn’t be here, you’ve got a country and the way they treat migrant workers, gay people. We’re on about spreading the game but dismissing human rights, it’s not right. It shouldn’t be here.”
