Man Utd risk Arnautovic-like fan fury amid ‘interest’ in 33-year-old Ronaldo replacement

Man Utd are reportedly contemplating a move for Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting with Cristiano Ronaldo likely to leave the club.

The Cameroonian played one season in the Premier League with Stoke City in 2017-18.

He scored five league goals in 30 games as the Potters were relegated to the Championship.

After an underwhelming spell in England, Choupo-Moting somehow managed a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

He played 51 times for the French giants, winning Ligue 1 twice and reaching the final of the Champions League in 2020.

Two years on from his free transfer to Paris, Choupo-Moting secured another incredible move for free.

He somehow joined a better team, signing for Bayern Munich – who had just beaten PSG and Choupo-Moting in the Champions League final.

The 33-year-old was signed as depth for Robert Lewandowski, however, the Polish striker joined Barcelona in the most recent transfer window.

Bayern did not sign a replacement and Choupo-Moting has stepped up after being held back for years.

The Cameroonian striker has scored in his last three Bundesliga and last two Champions League appearances.

This makes it eight goals in 13 matches this season, despite the fact he has only played the full 90 minutes once.

His contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he has the chance to continue his streak of moves without a transfer fee being involved.

Averaging a goal every 76 minutes, interest in Choupo-Moting is growing.

He must have the greatest agent in football, well him or Alvaro Morata, with Man Utd apparently one of the clubs interested.

According to French outlet Media Foot, the Red Devils are ‘thinking very seriously’ about making an approach to sign Choupo-Moting.

What makes the player so attractive to Man Utd is his ‘profile, versatility, experience, status’ and of course, the fact he will be a free agent in 2023.

This means he fits the criteria to be a ‘super recruit’…

With Cristiano Ronaldo likely to leave the club, Man Utd see Choupo-Moting as an ideal replacement.

Whether or not the Cameroonian would like to return to the Premier League remains to be seen.

Unfortunately for Man Utd, Bayern are believed to be interested in extending Choupo-Moting’s contract.

This has been claimed by Fabrizio Romano, who says a new deal will be discussed ‘in the next months’.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Choupo-Moting’s new contract will be discussed in the next months as Bayern want to keep him.

“He’s been key player this season, man of the match again tonight and he’s considered a top professional.”

Despite Choupo-Moting’s solid start to the season, this is a move that Man Utd fans might not be too happy with.

In the summer, the Red Devils pursued the signing of former Stoke forward, Marko Arnautovic, who left the Potters shortly before Choupo-Moting’s arrival.

This did not go down well with the club’s supporters, whose backlash forced the recruitment team to halt their pursuit of the Austrian.

Arnautovic is not much worse than the 33-year-old, if at all.

However, the atmosphere at Old Trafford was a lot worse during the summer than it is now, so fans may let this one slide, who knows.

There was a lot of frustration at the club’s transfer business in the summer transfer window.

Man Utd were chasing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong for weeks despite the fact the Dutchman had made it very clear he did not want to leave the La Liga side.

They also failed to sign a new striker, hence their desperate and random pursuit of Arnautovic.

The Red Devils ended up signing Real Madrid legend Casemiro instead of De Jong.

The Brazilian has been excellent and Erik ten Hag has got his side flying after a slow start to his career at Old Trafford.
