Man Utd outcast Dean Henderson has admitted that “it is pathetic” that Nottingham Forest have already conceded seven goals from outside the box this season.
Henderson was keen to leave Man Utd last season and Watford attempted to bring him in on loan in January.
United did not let him leave and this was also the case for Jesse Lingard, who was denied a move to Newcastle United.
The Red Devils were slammed after the window closed as they held Henderson and Lingard “to ransom”.
Henderson was unhappy about being sat on the bench as he eventually lost his battle with David De Gea.
The Englishman got his wish to leave earlier this summer as newly-promoted Nottingham Forest brought him in on loan.
Back in August, Henderson hit out at Man Utd as he accused his boyhood club of forcing him to “waste” a year of his career.
The 25-year-old previously shone in the Premier League while he was with Sheffield United. But he has struggled so far at Nottm Forest.
Steve Cooper’s side currently sit in the bottom three and they have conceded 22 goals in just nine games.
Forest visit Wolves on Saturday looking to record their second league win of the campaign.
Ahead of this game, Henderson has admitted that the number of goals they have conceded from range “is pathetic”.
“It’s totally avoidable. Whether it’s giving the ball away, edge of the box, people turning their backs blocking, the fundamentals of defending, maybe if I could save a couple of them, who knows?” Henderson told Sky Sports.
“We’re working on it all the time and I take it personally and take it as my responsibility.
“I look in the mirror every day and think how can I go from conceding next to none in the last Premier League season I played to seven, it’s pathetic.
“So for sure I take it personally and I always look at what I can do to help the team.”
Ex-Nottm Forest midfielder Lewis McGuigan has hit out at Henderson over his comments about Man Utd.
“In terms of his distribution, it’s really poor for a goalkeeper of that standard, who has been where he’s been,” McGuigan told Nottinghamshire Live.
“The big thing for me was his interview when he left Manchester United, it put a big target on him and set the wrong tone.
“It has you fighting people already. As soon as you make a mistake or your form drops, people are ready to come at you because there is that target on your back.
“For a club like Manchester United, I think it was disrespectful and he didn’t need to say anything.”
