Alexander Isak scored either side of half-time as Newcastle United ran out deserving winners over Nottingham Forest on Friday night.
The Magpies were the better side throughout the 90 minutes but they went behind against the run of play.
Emmanuel Dennis capitalised on a mistake from Sven Botman to break the deadlock. The defender’s attempted back pass to Nick Pope was short and the striker found the net in exquisite fashion.
Newcastle looked set to go into the break a goal behind but Isak got on the end of Joe Willock’s cross to convert past Keylor Navas.
Eddie Howe’s side were the aggressors in the second half. Elliot Anderson was unfortunate to have a goal ruled out before the visitors were awarded a penalty for handball in stoppage time.
Isak calmly converted past Navas to earn Newcastle a vital three points. They are now just one point adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.
