Premier League side Man Utd are interested in signing Mjällby AIF midfielder Otto Rosengren, according to the Swedish club’s sporting director Hans Larsson.
The Red Devils have had a mainly positive season under Erik ten Hag, despite being thrashed 3-0 by Sevilla on Thursday night to crash out of the Europa League, and the Dutchman will be hopeful he gets the money to improve his team again in the summer transfer market.
Ten Hag has won the Carabao Cup this season and guided Man Utd into third place in the Premier League ahead of the final eight matches of the season, while they still have a chance of more glory in the FA Cup.
It is understood that Man Utd will look to improve their attack as priority with Ten Hag still looking for a permanent replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
But after that it’s rumoured they want a new midfielder and now Mjällby AIF sporting director Larsson has revealed that their youngster Rosengren features on United’s wanted list.
“There have been some Danish, English and a Dutch club looking at him. Viborg, AGF and Manchester United, among others, have been looking at him,” Larsson told Tipsbladet (via Sport Witness).
“There is nothing concrete about him. There have been some rumours, and then several clubs have looked at him.”
When asked if his side will sell Rosengren the summer transfer window, Larsson explained: “I don’t know. We must wait and see. It’s his first year as a real first-team player in Allsvenskan, and I’m not so sure he wants to leave either. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
And in another interview Larsson went into more detail about the level of interest from Man Utd with the Premier League side watching him more than once or twice.
Larsson told Fotbollskanalen: “I think it’s been several times actually, at least based on what they told me, but I haven’t met anyone. They have only contacted and said that they will come, because they want tickets.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on Otto, but there have also been a couple of Danish and Dutch clubs who have been here.”
On the amount of Man Utd scouts coming to watch Rosengren, Larsson added: “It’s really nice, absolutely. It’s a sign that Mjällby are working properly, and he’s their own product, so it’s wonderful.
“Then it is his first year as a regular in Allsvenskan. It is up to both him and us to let him go, but it is not concrete. As usual, you have to lie low until there is something concrete. We have nothing, just that they look at him, and that’s exciting.”
On whether Rosengren will stay beyond the end of the year, Larsson replied: “Yes, I think so, but you never know.”
Full-back is another area that Ten Hag could look to improve on this summer with Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui believed to be a target.
90min claims that Man Utd and other Premier League clubs are ‘keeping tabs’ on the defender’s situation at Bayern Munich with the former Ajax man only making 20 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side.
His agent has ‘begun to gauge interest from other clubs ahead of a potential summer move’ and ‘Manchester United, Newcastle United, Wolves, Arsenal, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are among the clubs to have been alerted to the Moroccan’s potential availability’.
